FAQ
What should I expect on my first day of classes?
You will arrive at my home (training facility) and there will be about 3-4 dogs in the class. We will begin with some short introductions, but will quickly lead right into the training material. I will give a short lesson and demonstration and then allow the class a period of time to try the new skill while walking around giving out pointers and extra tips.
Will I have a perfect, well mannered dog at the end of the 6 weeks of class?
Everyone's idea of a 'perfect' dog is different, with that said by the end of the 6 weeks you will have the tools you need to help your dog become the best companion they can. You will notice (especially in the first few weeks) that your dog will not perform as well in the class as they do at home - this is normal! Classes can be a lot for dogs to take in, new people, new environment, new smells etc. You can almost look at the classes as teaching the human how to better help their dog - the real work comes at home. Each week it is strongly encouraged to go home and continue to try and practice the news skills you have learned. The more practice you and your dog do together, the more you will get out of the class.
What should I bring to classes?
Lots of tasty small treats (soft treats are best), a flat collar or head halter, a six foot leash, and a positive and fun attitude :) Proof of vaccinations is also required to ensure the safety of all involved.
What is the best clothing for me to wear to your training class?
Comfortable and safe closed toed shoes (like a running shoe) is best. It is also helpful to wear pants, or a sweater with pockets to hide treats in. It is most important that you are comfortable and able to move easily in whatever you choose to wear.
Are taxes included in the cost posted on your site?
Yes, all taxes have been included in the cost listed on the site.
Do you travel outside of Peterborough for private lessons?
Although I live and work in the Peterborough area, I am able to accommodate travelling to surrounding locations based on availibility. Please contact me for further details on this matter.
How old should my puppy be when I enroll them in the class?
Dogs should be at least 16 weeks old, and due to the fact that the training takes place in my home it is a requirement that all dogs must be housetrained. All dogs must be up to date on all their booster shots, and have their vaccine record present on the first day of class.
I would like to take part in classes but in the past my dog has shown some aggressive behaviors, can I still attend?
Group classes are not appropriate for aggressive dogs. If you feel your dog may have a hard time being in a group setting I also offer private lessons, which may be a better way to start off training your dog.
Can my spouse and children attend the class with me?
Due to the lack of space, only one other family member may attend the class - however, only one person may work the dog at any given time.
I feel my dog is past your beginners course, what are my options?
At this point in time I am only offering a beginners class, but am hoping to expand in the future to accomidate this need. Please check back often. In the meantime I do offer private lessons if there was something specific you would like to focus on.
