About Me
I have always been an animal lover. Growing up on a small local farm gave me the opportunity to meet many animals including a few cherished farm dogs.
I started learning about training dogs with my first dog Tally. Together we did some basic obedience and agility training, and Tally was able to gain her Agility Dog of Canada title.
When I got my first Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (NSDTR) "Cedar" in 2003 I began to work with him and since he has had many successes in agility, obedience, rally and field. Some of Cedar's titles include Agility Trial Champion, Masters Steeplechase Dog of Canada, Canine Good Neighbour, Rally Advanced and a Working Certificate. In September 2011 Cedar achieved his Obedience Trial Champion Excellent and is currently working towards his Masters. Cedar and I have also competed in agility at the Nationals level for 3 years.
I currently also have a female NSDTR "Hazyl". She has achieved her Companion Dog title and her Rally Novice title. She is my young dog who is just beginning her competitive career. We would like to continue to compete for future obedience and agility competitions.
My 3rd dog, a Wheaten X "Pearl" also enjoys learning new tricks, basic obedience and agility.
Learning about dogs is something that I enjoy to the fullest. I am always learning and always looking to further educate myself by attending seminars and workshops on training and dog related issues as well as continuing with advanced training with my dogs. I have trained and/or learned from Sylvia Reeve, Ricki Abrams, Sue Miller, Lane White, Lynn Inia, Dr Chris Zink, Dr Jean Dodds and Dr Pamela Reid.
In addition, I have been assisting with obedience classes for several years and have been teaching formal obedience classes for the local obedience club for 5 years.
I have been certified in Pet First Aid and CPR- February 11/2012
It is my belief that positive, rewards based training is the best approach, as well as the most "least intrusive" method.
